The St. Beatus Caves on Lake Thun near Interlaken are among the most famous and popular excursion destinations in Switzerland! Visitors can explore the inside of the mountain for about one kilometer on a well-developed and illuminated path. Discover stalactites and stalagmites that were created over millions of years and immerse yourself in this unique natural underground world. The caves have a constant temperature year round of 8-10°C, so you should bring warm clothes for your visit any time of year. You can also visit their cave museum and learn everything there is to know about caves and speleology with the help of an audio guide. There is also an onsite panorama restaurant with a wonderful view over lake Thun that serves hot meals daily until 16:00, as well as pizza and snacks after 17:00.
Twice per month during the colder months, you can also experience a special kind of raclette dinner by a sea of candlelight in the grotto of the St. Beatus caves. Start the evening punctually at 18:00 with a welcome drink by a crackling fire on the terrace of the restaurant before you enter the cave and select a cozy place on the rocks (they provide mats for sitting) for your raclette dinner “à discretion” (all you can eat). They also provide the necessary accompaniments of bacon and picked vegetables, as well as fruit and pastries with coffee. The evening will take about 3 hours and will include the welcome drink; raclette dinner in the cave with white wine, tea, or mineral water; dessert; coffee; and a Kisag candle-light raclette mini-oven and a practical backpack to take home with you. There is little parking available nearby, so consider arriving by bus, or with a ship directly to the Schiffstation St. Beatus-Höhlen. Reserve your place at events@beatushoehlen.ch or by calling 033-841-1643, the event will be cancelled 48-hours in advance in the case of very bad weather.
Cost is CHF 98 for adults, CHF 55 for kids ages 6-16.
