Chäppelihäx and Funggefüür

Always on the weekend after the Rynacher Fasnacht, Reinach celebrates its big spring festival: Chäppelihäx and Funggefüür (Chäppeli witch and sparking bonfire)! The Chäppelihäx rumbles all year round in her forest at the crossing from Reinach to Therwil, the Chäppeli. She gets particularly intense when her big day is approaching, when she returns to her beloved village to go out to the big, sparking bonfire, together with the devil and her accompanying witches, accompanied by much noise and fire. To bring back the warm sun and spring after the cold days, they will dance around the fire together with their guests.
With this event, the association Chäppelihäx brings two old customs back to Reinach. One is the “Funggefüür” that is based on the custom of the spring festivals, as they were already cultivated by their ancestors; the other is the legend of the witch who lives at the Chäppeli and is the guardian of the forest and nature: the Chäppelihäx!
The festival is celebrated on the weekend after the Rynacher Fasnacht. At 18:00, participants carrying torches, fire brooms, and the like assemble at Ernst Feigenwinter-Platz in Reinach. At 18.30, the Chäppelihäx will join them, together with the devil and accompanying witches. After the witch dances with the devil, the whole group will march noisily through Reinach to the place where a large bonfire is set up (Füürblatz), where the Funggefüür will be lit with drums, dancing, and lots of noise. The festivities will continue until the fire dies. They will be happy if you are also present at this great festival, whether as an active participant or simply to watch.
