Collegium Musicum Basel — Aufbruch (Departure)

That composers, too, yearn for the South is exemplified by Johannes Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2. Inspired by his trip to Italy, the composer created a work lasting approximately 50 minutes, which can be described not only as a piano concerto but almost as a "symphony with obbligato piano." The renowned French pianist Lise de la Salle, who has been performing internationally for over 20 years, will not only shine as a soloist in this work, as the piano repeatedly blends into the orchestra's Mediterranean-inspired soundscape.
Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 1, on the other hand, is a youthful explosion of ideas, humor, and virtuosity. Still far removed from the sarcastic sharpness of his later works, it shows the young composer at the height of his creativity. The symphony's premiere captivated the art world, and for the time being, all musical doors were open to the composer.
Tickets are CHF 51.50-91.90 for adults and CHF 21.20 for youths and students.
