A small musical monument for the Musik-Akademie Basel on the Day of Monuments. For European Heritage Day, the Kammerorchester Basel (Chamber Orchestra) is programmatically dedicated to this important Basel institution at Leonhardsgraben.
Works will include a world premiere by Hansheinz Schneeberger, his arrangement of the suite “Im Freien”, Sz. 81 by Béla Bartók; the Bartók “Suite op. 14” for small orchestra, arranged by A. Dorati; as well as works by Sàndor Veress ("Four Transylvanian Dances" and "Divertimento for Chamber Orchestra") and Hans Huber (Scherzo from the "String Quartet in F major").
The works performed give an insight into the connections of the Musik-Akademie’s founders and their companions. Huber was of the Music Academy and long-time artistic director of the general music school; Bartók and his student Veress had close connections to Basel and Switzerland; and Schneeberger worked at the Musik-Akademie for many decades. A musical monument to all of them will be set in this concert.
Admission is free.
