On June 25, 1916, zoo patron Johannes Beck established a foundation to support the Basel Zoo. To commemorate him, the zoo celebrates this anniversary each year with a special evening, including free entrance to the zoo for all from 16:00–22:00, as well as musical entertainment in front of the zoo restaurant.
