Le Corso Fleuri (Flower Parade)

Sélestat (France)
16:00-24:00

The Alsatian town of Sélestat celebrates the colorful beauty of flowers in a creative festival atmosphere each August with Le Corso Fleuri—a parade, festival, and party, all around the theme of flowers. For the 97th year, people from Sélestat and neighboring communities meet for a parade of flower-laden floats and a host of other entertainment and activities. This year’s edition is entitled “Un voyage dans le temps” (A travel through time). You might encounter dinosaurs, mammoths, members of lost civilizations, and a knight on his trusty steed; discover the beginnings of printing and the automobile; embark on an exploration, making a stop in the Wild West along the way; enjoy the innovations of geniuses like cinema, the airplane, the wheel, and perhaps even venture into space… The 12 flower-covered floats designed by artist Eric Ball offer you a whirlwind journey through time. Companies, brass bands, and musical and folk ensembles will also be there to immerse you even further in these slices of the past.
The festivities on Saturday will start in the center of town at 16:00, followed by the vintage car parade at 17:45, and the day parade at 18:00. The night parade at 22:00 will be preceded by the vintage car parade at 21:45. The festivities continue on Sunday with many activities in the streets of town, the exhibition of the 12 flowered floats, a wine fair, a market filled with local delicacies, entertainment, and so much more; check the full program online. The town of Sélestat is a little over an hour from Basel and can be reached by car and by train.
Access is free.
