Los Capitanes del Son is a melting pot of three experienced, professional salsa and son musicians from Basel. Their passion for Cuban music merges into a vibrant, high-energy mix of three cultures.
The musical director Leonardo Salazar (conga, percussion) from Santiago de Cuba writes his own salsa songs for the repertoire and is the undisputed specialist for authentic arrangements. No wonder, given his background, as he has played with all the big names in the scene in Europe and Cuba. The organizer and guitarist-tresero Jörg Hurter has been playing the Tres Cubano for over 10 years and brings his own Tres style from his long career in jazz, pop and rock. He has played with various Latin greats such as Roberto Marcano and Ludmilla Merceron. On the trombone, Noureddine Wenger, with Moroccan roots, inspires with youthful freshness and inspiring playing in all of Basel's popular Latin projects. In addition, various musicians from the professional son and salsa scene will perform. Prepare to be surprised!
The evening begins with a Salsa Cubana workshop for everybody at 20:00; no previous experience necessary. Doors open and warmup for the concert with El Otro DJ starts at 21:00, before Los Capitanes del Son will take the stage at 22:00. Their concert is followed by an afterparty with El Otro DJ.
Tickets are CHF 25 in advance or CHF 30 at the door; cost for the workshop is CHF 10.
