Medieval Spectacle

Allmend Altstätten (SG)
17:00-22:00 (Thu.) | 10:00-24:00 (Fri. & Sat.) | 10:00-17:00 (Sun.)

The Allmend in Altstätten, canton St. Gallen, will be the setting for a festive event that is all about the Swiss Confederation. Celebrate with them the time when Switzerland was born (in the year 1291) and immerse yourself in a world full of knights, jugglers, magicians, and much more. The highlights of the spectacle include a grand jousting tournament, with exciting battles on horseback and on foot during the day, as well as the night tournament by torchlight, which takes place in the glow of flames and shadows. Be enchanted by magician Rick, listen to the stories of the legend teller, and marvel at the artistic performances of the jugglers. With bagpipes, drums, and flutes, the minstrels will create the right atmosphere—let yourself be carried away!
There will also be a large medieval market with almost 100 stands offering all kinds of useful, unusual, and beautiful things: from blacksmithing and other crafts to spices andjewelry, there is so much to discover! The food mile will tempt you with delicious sweet and savory dishes from the cauldron over an open fire. This year, Marco Polo is bringing its Far Eastern specialties to Altstätten for the first time—a real treat for the senses! The finest mead, the sweetest honey wine, the finest knight's beer and berry wines are served in the taverns of Turnei. Those who prefer something even more mysterious can look forward to the green fairy, the torturer's servant, and many other mystical non-alcoholic spritzers!
On the national holiday, August 1, a bonfire straight out of the Middle Ages will be lit and will light up the sky above Altstätten. Celebrate the cradle of the Swiss Confederation at a spectacle from days gone by with lots of fun, shows, gastronomic experiences, and entertainment for young and old!
There are parking spaces directly at the event; if you come by train, the site is a 10-15 minute walk from the Altstätten train station.
Tickets are CHF 5 for Thursday, CHF 19 for Friday, CHF 22 for Saturday, and CHF 18 for Sunday; kids up to age 17 accompanied by an adult are free.
