Mitmach-Mittwoch (Participatory Wednesday)

It's also your museum! Every Wednesday evening, the Kunstmuseum Basel makes room for your ideas. Would you like to upcycle your clothes? Would you like to try out virtual reality or screen printing? Or would you like to use the museum as a space for your own creative project? Here you can experiment, help design and exchange ideas with others. Each month, they are having a different theme.
In November, Mitmach-Mittwochs are filled with hauntings, chills, magic, protection, lost souls, the paranormal, and bedsheets. With presence of mind, participants will devote themselves—on the occasion of the special exhibition "Ghosts"—to the role of all kinds of spectral figures in art.
The topic of Mitmach-Mittwoch in December is "black." For the final month of the year, they dive into the world of darkness, with ink as the starting point in the search for the blackest black. The beginning of drawing, erasure of the previous, tabula rasa.
In January, Mitmach-Mittwoch will focus intensely on the topic of collage, which many artists have been using since the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. From found objects, participants will search, find, cut, tear, combine, and glue to create something new and unexpected.
In February, the workshops will focus on the topic of Expressionism, with its strong colors, distorted shapes, and subjective realities. Participants get to know artists of the early 20th century and explore the possibilities of capturing the world as they feel it.
Mitmach-Mittwoch events are for young people ages 14 and up. Participation is free, and no registration is required.
