Moa Sjöstedt — Under the Skin of the World I Found Fables

see you next tuesday
Ongoing Event
Fri., 27 October until Sat., 23 December

In the exhibition, “Under the skin of the world I found fables,” Moa Sjöstedt shows a series of ink and gouache drawings on paper made between 2017 and 2019. The drawings (re)construct the skeleton of suffocated wrath as a part of an architecture of oppression within patriarchy. In her artistic practice, Sjöstedt creates worlds in which visceral, affective, and physical aspects of life become tangible. Her paintings, drawings, and texts are relics from these worlds.
Sjöstedt grew up in the outskirts of Göteborg, Sweden, and now lives and works in Basel. She graduated with a Master’s degree in fine arts from the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst in 2022 (Institut Art Gender Nature). Her work has been presented in Villa Renata (CH), Kunsthaus Baselland (CH), Hangmen Projects (SE), Detroit Gallery (SE), Nordic Summer University (LIT), the Swedish Embassy (USA), as well as in the public space exhibition “Inklusiv Arlesheim” (CH).
This exhibit will be the first in Balzer Projects new space “see you next tuesday” in Basel; The public opening of this exhibit will take place on October 26 from 18:00-20:00.
Entrance is free.
