Mr. Vertigo is modern power groove music with the smartness of jazz, the melancholy of indie rock, and the lightness of pop. Two drummers provide the rhythmic foundation, sometimes in unison, sometimes in tight interplay, upon which Ursus Bachthaler develops his solos that range from screamingly expressive to gently poetic, depending on the song. The music is held together by the underpinning of an agile, warm bass. Bachthaler has dedicated his compositions to musicians who have accompanied and influenced him over the past decade. And so, the spirit of Bon Iver, Me's Shell Nedegeocello, John Scofield, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Nir Felder, and Scott Henderson permeates this unmistakably unique music.
