Nicole Johänntgen — Henry

the bird's eye jazz club
Tue 13.10. | Wed 14.10.
20:30

The soulful, versatile saxophonist Nicole Johänntgen's swinging foundation is New Orleans jazz. This becomes immediately clear when Paul Thibodeaux, with sensitivity and drive, executes the legendary "Second Line" drum groove, the cradle of traditional jazz, so to speak. The beat meets Steven Glenn's pulsating sousaphone, which precisely and funkily articulates the bassline and lays the harmonic groundwork for bluesy improvisations and dialogues between Jon Ramm's trombone and Johänntgen's saxophone. The band rumbles, blows, and belts out the catchy melodies with passion and subtlety in a buoyant atmosphere of concentrated energy. "Henry" is a captivating dance of melancholy and joie de vivre. Johänntgen will be stopping at a bird's eye on her CD release tour.
The musicians from New Orleans and Switzerland won't let anyone sit still; give them a listen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKlir0HRMsw.
