photo basel is Switzerland’s first and only international art fair dedicated to photography-based art. It brings together galleries from around the world in a unique, authentic setting. In recent years, photography has established itself with museums and the art market, and the fair wants to enhance and nourish the creative trade of all major art players within and around photography. There will be hundreds of works from 39 international galleries.
In this year's edition, photo basel is dedicating a special exhibition to Basel photographer Kurt Wyss (*1936). With "Eyewitness Kurt Wyss in Dialogue with Jean Dubuffet," which presents insight into an important phase of his photographic work. Wyss first photographed the French painter and sculptor Dubuffet (1901-1984) in 1970, and their collaboration lasted until Dubuffet's death in 1984. Whether working on a model, absorbed in thought, or surrounded by drawings, Wyss’ portraits show the artist in the intimate surroundings of his studio. Wyss was not interested in depicting the artist gloriously posing next to his works; rather, he wanted to show the person and the ideas behind the works.
Tickets are CHF 20 and are available via http://www.seeticket.ch/ or at the on-site ticket desk.
