Little Dorothy from Kansas dreams of a faraway land full of magnificent colors. When she gets caught in a tornado, she and her dog Toto are swept far beyond the rainbow. Eventually, the two land in the mysterious Land of Oz. There lives a Great Wizard who might be able to help Dorothy. On her way to the Wizard, Dorothy meets a Scarecrow who would love to have a brain, a Tin Man without a heart, and a Cowardly Lion. The Great Wizard sets one condition for his help: First, Dorothy and her companions must bring him the Wicked Witch’s broom.
“The Wizard of Oz” is a world-famous story by the American author Lyman Frank Baum. Vera Kniss’s characters are based on the original book illustrations by W. W. Denslow from 1900. In addition, the famous songs from the 1939 film adaptation of the musical can be heard in “Basel German,” as if they had always been that way. This play will be performed with table puppets and flying monkeys in dialect; ideally suited for families with children ages 6 and up.
Tickets are CHF 25 for adults and CHF 15 for children and students.
