Sinfonieorchester Basel — Summertime. Livin’ is Easy

Perhaps no one knows George Gershwin's opera “Porgy and Bess” better than the British conductor Wayne Marshall. He has, of course, conducted it, but has also sung in it. And he has transformed the full-length three-act opera into a tight concert version. Hits like "Summertime" and " I Got Plenty o' Nuttin'" hold the story together: the love story, set in the Deep South of the United States, in the state of South Carolina, between the disabled Porgy and the vivacious Bess. Arguments and compassion, poverty and joie de vivre, and the hope for true love are the ingredients in Gershwin's opera. Full of spiritual, blues, and jazz elements, it simply sweeps you away. Especially when it is sung by such a seasoned ensemble as the one with which Marshall and "his" Gershwin are coming to Basel.
Tickets are CHF 35-110, half price for youths and students.
