The Stimmen (Voices) music festival has become the largest music event on the Upper Rhine, attracting an impressive array of international stars, soloists, and choirs, providing magical moments and musical experiences for young and old. From June 18 to July 11 this year, the festival will play a homage to the power and beauty of the human voice at various special venues in neighboring Germany.
George Friedrich Händel was barely 21 years old when Italy's musical capitals celebrated him for his cantatas, oratorios, and operas. The two cantatas of the evening, "Il Delirio Amoroso" and "Aminta e Fillide," come precisely from this creative period. "Aminta e Fillide" unfolds a pastoral love story, a popular theme in Baroque Rome: the shepherd Aminta persistently woos the nymph Fillide but is initially rejected, until Cupid finally intervenes and his fidelity and steadfastness are rewarded. "Il Delirio Amoroso" also combines emotional extremes with virtuosic expressiveness, showcasing Händel as a brilliant storyteller of inner states. These cantatas will be performed by sopranos Emmanuelle de Negri and Bruno de Sá together with the Kammerorchester Basel. This ensemble is among the most internationally renowned orchestras for historically informed performance practice. Under the direction of concertmasters Anna Troxler and Christoph Dangel, a lively, transparent sound unfolds.
Tickets are € 39-59.
