Stimmen Festival — Orchestra Baobab

Burghof Lörrach
Saturday, 04 July
20:00

The Stimmen (Voices) music festival has become the largest music event on the Upper Rhine, attracting an impressive array of international stars, soloists, and choirs, providing magical moments and musical experiences for young and old. From June 18 to July 11 this year, the festival will play a homage to the power and beauty of the human voice at various special venues in neighboring Germany.
The story of Orchestra Baobab begins in the late 1960s in Dakar's medina and resonates to this day. Emerging from the legendary Star Band and shaped by the city's vibrant nightlife, a sound developed at Club Baobab that seamlessly blends West African tradition, Afro-Cuban grooves, pop, and jazz. What sustains this music is its unique mix of elegance and depth. Griot vocals meet flowing guitar lines, wind instruments meet subtle rhythms. Orchestra Baobab not only defined the sound of an era but have continually developed it further. After successes in the 1970s, a long hiatus, and a rediscovery in the 2000s, the band once again graces international stages—with a changing lineup but a clear core, led by Balla Sidibé. The music remains warm, multifaceted, and full of stories. An Orchestra Baobab concert is not a look back, but a living continuation of the narrative.
Tickets are € 48.
