Stimmen Festival — Voces Suaves
It is well-known that Claudio Monteverdi was an Italian composer who shaped the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque era. The fact that he is regarded as a pioneer of early opera should also be familiar to some. But very few people know that the opera singer Caterina Martinelli had a considerable influence on Monteverdi's work. She was Monteverdi's muse and protégée in the last years of her life until her early death in 1608—she died at the age of 19—and many of his compositions are inextricably linked to her life. The much praised Basel vocal ensemble Voces Suaves tells the story of Martinelli's life musically. The focus is primarily on vocal works by Monteverdi and some of his contemporaries, which symbolize their life situation.
Tickets are € 31.
