Summer Blues in Basel

Various Locations
Friday, 30 June

On this Friday evening, Kleinbasel will be the location for the 14th Glaibasler Bluesfescht (blues festival), an evening of over 50 hours of high-quality live blues, for free! Thirty-seven bands from all over the world will play on seven stages in the old part of Kleinbasel, between Claraplatz and Theodorskirchplatz. Just stroll over and enjoy the music and the great atmosphere; there will be 40 food and drink stands and bars set up throughout the concert areas.
This year, there will be 10 smaller formations alternately playing at the five alley venues for the “Blues uff der Gass” (Blues in the alleys), including at the Rheingasse, Färbergässlein, Hermann Hess-Platz, and Reverenzgässlein, as well as on the banks of the Rhein on Oberer Rheinweg.
A new format called "Blues'n'Dine" will be celebrating its premiere this year, on the terrace of the Café Spitz, where a multi-course menu will accompany first-class acoustic blues. It is recommended to reserve a table early for the "Blues'n'Dine" option. Starting at 22:00, this venue will also be open to blues fans who do not want to order the special “Blues'n'Dine” menu.
Some of the highlights of this 14th edition include “Blues & More,” a varied program that awaits blues fans at the Claraplatz venue; the “Best of Swiss Blues,” where high expectations will be met by three of the standout bands from the illustrious Swiss blues scene (Bluesballz, Bluesick, and Bluedög) at the Utengasse venue; and “Tribute to Cla Nett” on the Lindenberg venue, which will be brought to you by a dozen of companions of the late Basel Blues legend.
The final of the Swiss Blues Challenge will also take place on this evening in the courtyard of the Volkshaus Basel from 19:45-22:15. The four finalists that were selected by the organization “Swiss Blues” will each be playing for 25 minutes and competing for the public and the jury’s vote. Don’t miss an opportunity to hear these young talents and cheer them on. The competition starts with a performance by the winners of last edition’s Swiss Blues Challenge, 6up Blues Band, from 18:30-19:30. After the award ceremony, the Basel Jitterbugs will invite you to dance with the Enric Peidro Swingtet!
