Summer Fun at the Kunsti Margarethen
If you normally go ice-skating at the Kunsteisbahn (Kunschti) Margarethen in the winter, you should check out what they are offering in the summer. Again this year, the Sports Department Basel-Stadt has teamed up with Robi-Spiel-Aktionen to transform the outdoor ice rink into a summer paradise of fun for kids with a pumptrack (helmets mandatory), a street-soccer facility for the football fans, a trampoline, a skate-park, a bouldering wall, and a giant slide as some of the over two dozen highlights for young and old. Grab a lawn chair by the mini-pool and enjoy some refreshing drinks and snacks to recharge your batteries. Wear comfortable clothing, and for sports activities, bring your own helmet and protective padding, as well as your own skateboard, bike, or scooter, if you have them. If not, play materials and equipment can be borrowed on site with a deposit. Kids can also partake in a variety of workshops on Sunday at 13:00, including BMX (July 7), Skateboard (July 28), Scooter (August 4), and Pumptrack (August 11). Also every Sunday, you are welcome to participate in a Zumba class, which starts at 11:30.
Summer Kunschti Margarethen is open Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 14:00-19:00; Thursday from 14:00-20:00 with BBQ (grill available, bring your own food and drink); and Sunday from 11:00-18:00 (closed Monday and Tuesday). They are open only in dry weather; when in doubt, visit their website to check if they are open.
Entrance is free (donations welcome), as is participation in all workshops and activities; no registration is necessary.
