Theater — Die Möwe (The Seagull)

In this play by Anton Chekhov, love weighs heavily on the country estate where a family of artists are spending their holidays: unfulfilled longings and an existential search for meaning everywhere, whether young or old, rich or poor, established or unsuccessful. Everyone dreams of change through art or love. In the end, however, all that remains is a stuffed bird, forgotten somewhere on a shelf. Chekhov wasn't trying to be moving: "I wanted to say simply and honestly: look at yourselves, see how badly and boringly you lead your lives!" Jaz Woodcock-Stewart previously presented her fine storytelling skills in Basel with “The Glass Menagerie.” Now the British director is once again devoting herself to a classic of world literature. This sad comedy will be performed in German with English surtitles.
Tickets are CHF 30-92 for adults and CHF 10 for youths and students.
