Niederschmetterlingen is a small village whose surroundings have turned into a desert. Every year, the local amateur theater group stages “The Little Prince”—and this year it celebrates its 30th anniversary. But just before opening night, the leading actor has vanished. Three inspectors investigate and uncover what the village has kept silent about for 30 years: the loss of a child. Digging deep, they come across not only the intrigues of party officials, but also a tragic love between teenagers and an unhappy son who longed for the stars. Michael Klammer, Thomas Niehaus, and Jörg Pohl play an entire village between the three of them. In the end, there is a search that becomes a journey in its own right, heading toward a celestial event.
At Theater Basel and Schauspielhaus Zürich, a unique double premiere brings two radically opposed interpretations of Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince" to the stage. This version, entitled "Little Princes" and staged by Antú Romero Nunes, is by Lucien Haug, based on Saint-Exupérys original story. At Schauspielhaus Zürich, Romero Nunes directs "Der kleine Prinz" at the Pfauen. On November 14, December 6, and January 3, combined performances of both productions will be held back to back, with enough time for the train journey from Zürich to Basel.
This play about geographers, kings, and drunkards will be performed in German with English surtitles.
Tickets are CHF 30-78.
