In ancient times, sirens were thought to be multifaceted hybrid creatures—half bird, half woman—who lured sailors to their doom with their song. They stood at the boundary between man and nature, between knowledge and danger.
Manuela Infante crafts a modern odyssey: A European engineer, who has worked in the Atacama Salt Desert for 20 years, observes unusual occurrences that increasingly unsettle his perception. In a polyphonic soundscape, the desert appears as a ghostly space. With playful humor and sharp insight, the piece illuminates the contradictions of a "green colonialism" in which the Global South bears the costs while the Global North profits. This play will be performed on the small stage of Theater Basel in both German and Spanish with English and German surtitles.
Tickets are CHF 30-60 for adults and CHF 10 for youths and students.
