Vélo Gourmand (Gourmet Cycling)

If you enjoy cycling through breathtaking landscape and trying out delicious local foods and wine while at the same time raising money for a good cause, this event is for you! The volunteers at the Ligue contre le Cancer de Rouffach (Rouffach’s League Against Cancer) will once again be organizing this 37-km bicycle ride through the plains and vineyards of Alsace, with 5 wine-paired culinary stops along the way—a pretzel and Crémant at your first stop in Pfaffenheim, a poultry pâté with Pinot Gris in Herrlisheim, the main course (pork cheek, späetzles, and red cabbage) with Pinot Noir in Eguisheim, a plate of assorted cheeses with Gewurztraminer in Gueberschwihr, and desert at the festival hall back in Rouffach (vegetarian menu also available).
Cyclists will be guided by volunteer members of a local cycling club in groups of 30, departing every 20 minutes between 9:30 and 12:30. Participation costs € 35 for adults and € 15 for kids under age 12; if you would like to go as a group, be sure to indicate your group members on your registration. Rouffach can be reached in about 1 hour by train from Basel, or in 45 minutes by car (there is parking near the starting point).
Registrations will be accepted until September 18 at hvoegtlin@hotmail.com or by phone at +33-63-217-8321.
Bring a bike in good condition and consider also bringing a spare innertube in the event of a flat. It is also possible to rent a bike from Alsa Cyclo Tours that will be delivered to you on the spot; to reserve, call +33-36-945-9270. To be as environmentally-friendly as possible, they are asking you to also bring your own cutlery and napkins!
