The smartphone is a curse and a blessing, liberation and prison, magic and horror, and above all—the mirror of our time. Veronica Fusaro addresses this state between sweet temptation and depressive moodiness and wraps her thoughts in a light, summery pop number. What else, one might almost say, because this is not the first time that the musician has managed to transform the dark side of our existence into a song that immediately leads us back to cheerfulness. And who can say no to that? Moral sermons are definitely not her thing. But a constructive examination of the human abyss is. And this is precisely where the unmistakable and irresistible Fusaro magic lies. Instead of resting on the laurels of her naturalness and her strong voice, Fusaro plays with the discrepancy between content and melody in “Slot Machine”—and thus creates precisely the tension that is needed to make a statement in the pop hustle and bustle. The single is a first taste of the second album that Fusaro will release in spring 2025.
