In its ideal balance between form and expression, Brahms' String Quintet No. 2 is often associated with Bach. After Hungarian folk music elements in its first movement, the program leads via François Rabbath, whose Syrian roots enrich his own musical language, to Giovanni Bottesini’s Concerto No. 1 in F sharp minor for Double Bass and Igor Stravinsky’s “Le baiser de la fée” to Astor Piazzolla's seasonal evocations in echoes of his Argentinian homeland.
In this concert, the Zürcher Kammerorchester (Zurich Chamber Orchestra) under the direction of violinist Willi Zimmermann will be playing with double bassist Dominik Wagner.
