Naturhistorisches Museum Basel
Sunday, 27 October
10:00-17:00

Finally, there is a chance to see things that usually only a few select people have access to: On this day, the Naturhistorisches Museum Basel is opening the doors to their storage depots that hold some of the 12 million objects in the museum's collections. Throughout the day, there will be interactive activities that allow visitors a look behind the scenes, from curator-guided tours, professional talks, and tours for kids to the presentation of one a new treasures in the museum's holdings, the Grimsel crystal (a large clear quartz crystal from the Grimsel mountain range). You can talk to some of the museum's scientists and even bring your own treasures, such as rocks, crystals, or bones, to have the museum's experts identify them. You can find a list of the activities and tours at https://www.nmbs.ch/de/events/agenda.html.
The event is part of the "Natural History Collection Day," a Switzerland-wide initiative to allow visitors to explore the archives of various natural history museums and botanical gardens (https://swiss-systematics.ch/en/events/natural_history_collection_day).
