Get Your Auto-Vignette Highway Sticker or E-Vignette Now!

If you use the motorways in Switzerland, you must have a valid “Autobahn Vignette” (toll sticker) for your car. Until last fall, the Vignette came only in the form of a sticker that you purchased for a cost of CHF 40 and affixed to the windshield of your car. Since then, the Vignette can be purchased either in the traditional sticker form or as a digital Vignette!

As in past years, you can purchase the Vignette stickers at post offices, gas stations, TCS offices, and other locations. You must remove the old sticker and affix the new one directly to your windshield, either at the top in the middle, behind the rear-view mirror, or along the side of the windshield on the driver’s side. As they are intentionally meant to be difficult to remove, you may want to invest in a little “Vignetten Entferner” kit (blade-like tool with or without a glue-dissolving spray) to help you take the old one off. The 2024 Vignette, which has a green color, is valid from December 1, 2023, to January 31, 2025.

The new digital version of the highway sticker, the “E-Vignette,” is available for purchase online. Simply go to the official Swiss federal website of at https://via.admin.ch/shop/dashboard and input the type of vehicle, country of registration, and license plate number of your car. With the E-Vignette, there is no more annual fiddling with removing and affixing of stickers—its validity is associated with your car’s license plate. Like the traditional Vignette stickers, the digital Vignette costs CHF 40 and is valid from the purchase date (as early as December 1, 2023) until the end of January 2025. Beware that the electronic Vignette can also be purchased from other websites, but at a higher price. For example, https://digitale-vignette-schweiz.de/en sells it for € 49.90 and https://vignetteswitzerland.com/ sells it for € 52.95.

If you plan to use the Swiss highways, be sure to purchase your new 2024 Vignette—sticker or digital—by January 31 at the latest! If you are caught without a valid Vignette, you can incur a fine of CHF 200 plus the cost of the new sticker that you have to purchase on site. Note that similar fines may be due if the Vignette is not affixed correctly.
