I Love the Arts! — Discover What Basel Has to Offer in the Arts

Fondation Beyeler, Kunstmuseum Basel, Sinfonieorchester Basel, and Theater Basel have joined forces to invite you, Basel’s English-speaking community, to their programs with a new project, entitled “I Love the Arts.” From March to June, each institution hosts two happenings, one of them specifically tailored to families. They may include such features as English-language introductions, some food or drinks, and a chance to get to know each other and members of the hosting cultural institution.

This spring, the project includes the following events—you can find more information about each individual event on our calendar:

April 7, 14:00-15:00
Tour of Dan Flavin — Dedications in Lights. On this Sunday, there will be a guided tour at the Kunstmuseum Basel in English of the special exhibition devoted to a pioneer of Minimal Art, the American artist Dan Flavin. Entrance is CHF 26 for adults and free for youths, plus CHF 5 for the tour.

April 11, 15:00-21:30
Symphony Concert — Casual Classic. Join the Sinfonieorchester Basel for a musical hour featuring Gustav Holst’s iconic work, “The Planets.” Stay for an after-party with the dynamic American trio, Time for Three (TF3)! Dive into a vibrant fusion of pop, jazz, and classical melodies, creating new memories with your friends. Meet TF3 for a pre-concert drink at Stadtcasino Basel’s lower level at 19:00. Price is CHF 50.

April 21, 14:00-16:00
Family Tour of “Jeff Wall” Exhibition. Fondation Beyeler is inviting families with children ages 6-10 for a 60-minute tour of the “Jeff Wall” exhibition, to jointly explore the current exhibition and discuss the works on display. This will be followed by a delicious drink and cake served in the studio, and if you haven’t had enough, you can give free rein to your creativity at the Open Studio until 18:00. Price is CHF 42 and includes admission, tour, drink, and cake.

May 16, 17:00-17:45
After Work Drawing. This event is a chance to visit the Kunstmuseum Basel in a relaxed atmosphere and gain a fresh perspective. Whether you want to sketch paintings, sculptures, or just observe the museum environment, everyone is welcome. No previous experience is necessary. Please bring your own drawing materials. Price is CHF 5, and the event is suitable for adults and families.

May 25, 14:00-16:00
Become a Theater Expert. Theater Basel invites families with children ages 4 and up to become little theater experts in two hours! Discover surprising costumes, guess fancy props, invent a choreography, and solve mysteries about Theater Basel. Price is CHF 20 per person and includes chocolate, drinks, and cake.

June 1, 16:00-17:30
Family Concert — In the Summer Holidays. In this 1-hour concert for kids, the children are packing their suitcases for a musical journey! Which instruments should they pack to capture the sounds of the beach, mountains, forest, and lakes? The harp, cello, violin, and viola are all waiting to help them get there. After the concert, you can take a behind-the-scenes look and learn about the instruments. Price is CHF 50 for two adults and two children.

June 19, 17:00-20:00
Fondation Beyeler — Summer Show. A lively tour of the “Summer Show” allows visitors to explore the works and installations on display and engage in a fertile exchange of experiences. Visitors are then invited to soak up the summer evening atmosphere with a cool drink from the bar and the musical magic of a “Sound Garden” concert from 18:00-20:00. Cost is CHF 42 and includes admission, tour, and a drink.
