Nature Walks in the Three-Countries Region

Do you enjoy being outside in the fresh air while getting some exercise and gaining some distance from the routine of everyday life? The three-countries region surrounding Basel boasts a unique and diversified environment with a host of natural space. This regional green belt is the habitat of several thousand animal and plant species, including some rare ones and others close to extinction. Given the development of this region into a European metropolitan area, it is imperative that we consciously preserve the natural and recreational spaces of this region, which has been the aim of the Stiftung für Trinationalen Umweltschutz (Foundation for Trinational Environmental Protection), or TRINUM for short.

As a part of this project Regio Greenbelt, they have created a trilingual website (German, French, and English) that highlights 100 extraordinary natural areas located within the green belt. You can go to their website and click on the activity of your choice and your method of arrival (bicycle, car, or public transport). It will display the location of the chosen area on a map, as well as give a short description of the natural environment of the area, details on how to get there, information on the time required for walking tours, as well as food and drink establishments available at every site. You can choose from a range of activity levels, including fitness walks, family-friendly walks, bike tours, and other sports. The information on what the greenbelt areas have to offer is now also available as an app for the iPhone and iPad via iTunes or the Apple App Store.
