The GGG Stadtbibliothek Basel (public library) has two new offers that will make visiting the library and loaning books even easier and more convenient.

Open Library  Visit Your Library at Your Own Leisure!

Welcome to the “Open Library” where you can enjoy the library in the early hours of the morning, later in the evening, or even on Sundays and holidays! Library members from age 16 who are early risers or night owls and are looking for a quiet place to read or study, can now access certain library branches outside of their regular opening hours with the library card. Members can benefit from this offer by using the RFID Chip at the entrance. During these hours, you can also borrow or return materials from the self-lending stations with your library card; simply follow the instructions on the machine. Participating Open Libraries are the branches at Basel West, Schmiedenhof, Breite, Gundeldingen, Hirzbrunnen, and Neubad. Their extended opening hours allow access to the unattended library from 7:00-22:00.

Note that if you do not want to become a member of the library to borrow materials, but rather are only interested in benefitting from the Open Library offer, there is an Open Library subscription for CHF 10 per year (individual loans are possible for a fee of CHF 4 per item). https://www.stadtbibliothekbasel.ch/de/open-library-_content—1–1135.html
