Put Your Trash Out Earlier on Hot Days!

To protect their workers during the current heat wave, Basel’s public works department is beginning trash collections earlier in the day, at 6:00, so that they can finish their services before the greatest mid-day heat. Therefore, residents are asked to put out their garbage bags, compostable trash, metal, cardboard/paper, and bulky items before 6:00 on the scheduled collection days or after 19:00 on the evening before.

This earlier schedule will be maintained at least throughout this week, until Friday, June 26, but may continue longer as needed. In fact, as noted in trash collection schedules that are distributed to all households, the earlier pick-up (and thus the need to put out the trash early enough) can be implemented any time that temperatures are expected to climb to 32° C or higher.

So please ensure that your garbage is placed at the curb in time for the earlier pick-up to avoid the bags sitting on the street or sidewalk for days in the heat until the next collection day!
