ReRenaissance Festival Basel

This weekend, September 22-24, ReRenaissance is organizing for the first time an international festival of Renaissance music with more than 50 musicians. The theme is “Music and Power” and is based on a 50-meter long picture frieze from 1526 depicting the triumphal procession of Emperor Maximilian.

The festival includes diverse offerings, including five 1-hour “triumphal concerts” that represent the five wagons shown in the triumphal procession frieze. Additionally, there will be a sword dance accompanied by drums and flutes, guided tours in the city highlighting Renaissance architecture, talks providing background information on the time, a musical market with historical instruments, 30-minute concerts with young ensembles.

Events will take place at Barfüsserkirche, Schmiedenhof, and Martinskirche. To find more information about the main concerts, check our event calendar for this weekend. The full program with more information on all events is available on their website at https://www.rerenaissance.ch/en/.

On their website, you can also find a video trailer for the festival, as well as an English-language video blog at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt2vgdTBQJY.
