The Basel Fasnacht from A to Z

Starting this coming Monday, February 27, at 4:00, the 72 hours of Basel’s Fasnacht (carnival) celebrations are considered by many the “drey scheenste Dääg” (three most wonderful days) of the year. Fasnacht aficionados from near and far crowd into the city to experience the special atmosphere of this unique event that has been included in the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list. And after 2 years of pandemic-related cancellations and a somewhat limited edition last year, this year’s Fasnacht will again be offering the full experience!

In the PDF below you will find the schedule of events as well explanations of these events and other Fasnacht-related terms to help you make the most of these crazy, noisy, and altogether fantastic days. The article was first published in 2015; however, the dates have been adjusted to this year’s dates.
