Root Area play soul jazz—"soul jazz" in the best sense of the word. Following their RAY Session (2022), the band makes an impressive return with the album “In Pursuit of Happiness.” The top-class line-up, consisting of Christoph Grab and Nicole Johänntgen on saxophones, Marcel Thomi on Hammond organ, and Elmar Frey on drums, presents nine fantastic new tracks, recorded live in a single afternoon at the Hardstudio in Winterthur.
The new program continues their philosophy of integrating a wide variety of grooves into their music and using them as a foundation for their original compositions and improvisations. Jazz and irresistible kinetic energy are fused to create the unmistakable Root Area sound. Whether bluesy boogaloo, gospel-infused ballads, New Orleans grooves, offbeat reggae, or Afrobeats—Root Area connect deep musical roots with the present.
