Zirka Zirkus — Not Standing/Alexander Vantournhout: “Nimble”

Many boxing champions have danced—Muhammad Ali trained in tap dancing, Vasiliy Lomachenko in Ukrainian folk dancing, and Mike Tyson danced to Latin pop in an Argentinian show. “Nimble” (meaning agile) is a captivating statement merging contemporary dance, boxing, and circus arts. Choreographer and circus artist Alexander Vantournhout, known for his precise, physical work, collaborates here for the first time with a large ensemble of nine dancers. Inspired by footwork in boxing, “Nimble” reveals what is often overlooked: tempo, precision, and the subtlest shifts in interplay. On the large Reithalle stage, the space becomes the playing area for a collective that constantly reforms itself—between synchronicity and individuality. The soundtrack is created live—a dense soundscape of beats, polyrhythms, loops, and vibrant electronics emerges from the movements. “Nimble” unfolds as a pulsating choreography in which movement and sound mutually drive each other, drawing the audience in and transforming the stage into a shared, physical rhythm.
Tickets are CHF 15-35.
