Richard Strauss' “Duet Concertino” that is on the program of Sinfonieorchester Basel’s concert is a kind of “Beauty and the Beast” story. The enchanting clarinet dances with the clumsy bassoon. Strauss compared the instruments to a princess and a bear. With clarinetist Rossana Rossignoli and bassoonist Benedikt Schobel, two outstanding soloists from the ranks of the Sinfonieorchester Basel will perform this work. Also on the program is Samuel Barber's emotionally intense “Adagio for Strings,” which is often used as a soundtrack since Stanley Kubrick's war film “Platoon” and has attained cult status today. Edward Elgar's solemn, stately, nobly marching Symphony No. 1 mediates between the deeply sad Barber “Adagio” and Strauss' tongue-in-cheek lightness. It is a testament to restrained passion.
Tickets are CHF 35-110 for adults and half-price for students and youths.
