Opera and Ballet — La Chercheuse d’esprit

Gundeldinger Feld Areal
Saturday, 13 June
19:30-21:00

The dance company Ballet Rococo and the Grenzklang Baroque Ensemble present Christoph Willibald Gluck’s “Orphée et Euridice” in a slightly shortened version, as well as Maximilien Gardel’s ballet-pantomime “La Cherceuse d'esprit” in a new choreography by Edmund Fairfax.
The shortened Parisian version of Gluck’s “Orphée et Euridice” melds opera and ballet into a unified story. The story of Orpheus is told by the songs, while the dance translates pain, hope, and love into a visible language. The journey of the singer who resists even the shadows has moved audiences for centuries, representing a search that is earnest, wide, and deep.
“La Chercheuse d'esprit” is a ballet pantomime by Gardel that has been rediscovered. Here, the stage becomes a live silent movie: light, playful, and full of humor. Nicette, a young farm girl, does not look for the depths of the realm of the dead, but for the meaning of life—and finds it in the love that she unexpectedly stumbles into.
Tickets are CHF 30 for adults (CHF 20 with KulturLegi), CHF 15 for students up to age 30, and free for kids and youths up to age 18. Note that there will be an introduction to the concert 45 minutes before the start of the show, which takes place in the Querfeldhalle of the Gundeldinger Areal.
