Camerata Variabile — Im Freien Fall (In Free Fall)

Gare du Nord
Sunday, 11 January
17:00-18:40

In the second concert of the season, Camerata Variabile devotes itself entirely to the fascination of descent. Falling lines in the basses represent tragic and deep emotions that span from baroque to pop music, whereas in “Autoconcert” by Hungarian composer Vydovszky, the audience is directly confronted with falling objects. The art of ceremoniously celebrating descent in music opens up a different perspective on phenomena that are otherwise often viewed with apprehension: falling stock market prices and social decline, the “becoming less,” and the low point at the end of the fall. The lute, with Locke, Purcell, and Cavalli, leads the audience into the great past of the infinitely descending lament bass, while contrasting bold duos by Furrer, Widmann, and Winkelman offer a rich kaleidoscope of contemporary voices. Particularly noteworthy are the world premiere of a work by Antoine Fachard, written especially for this program, and Morton Feldman's quartet.
Tickets are CHF 45 for adults and free for students.
