Technology and Science Fair for Children — tunBasel

tunBasel is an interactive experience show for children and young people ages 7-13 that is designed to awaken their interest in technology and natural sciences in a playful way. tunBasel shows school-aged children that careers in technology and science are varied and exciting. Tinkering, experimenting, and experiencing—tunBasel is an interactive laboratory, an interactive workshop, and an interactive exhibition where renowned institutions present exciting and challenging experiments.
Covering an area of more than 2,000 m2 in Halle 2.21 of Messe Basel, tunBasel invites school classes with teachers and accompanying adults, as well as children and young people with their parents and encourages them to marvel, explore, and discover. They can learn about a variety of things including robotics, space travel, or how surgeons stabilize bone fractures with metal implants; simulate Basel’s district heating network with a ball track; generate their own wind power; test their knowledge of various scientific fields; conduct small lab experiements; or shock their friends with a deceptively realistic wound tattoo. They can also try their hand at making handcream or a cooling pad, craft a color-changing pendant, simulate a river-flow, set records with their hand-made ring gliders, build a bridge made of ice cream sticks or wooden slats, paint their own flower pot, test their dexterity on a hot wire, inflate a baloon using baking soda and vinegar, or build an elevator motor out of building blocks.
To learn more about the 47 different experiments, you can go to the website and search them based on your child’s age category. Better yet, visit tunBasel and make some wonderful learning discoveries as a family.
Entrance is free. Groups of six or more children should register their participation online; no registration necessary for Saturday and Sunday.
