Guitarist, singer, and composer Zed Mitchell, originally from the former Yugoslavia, is one of the best-known and most important guitarists in Europe. He has the ability to play every string of a guitar with a personal touch. The string wizard lets his instrument rock, then sound virtuosic, or weave melancholic soundscapes. When he plays, blues music resounds with an inspiring facet.
Mitchell has a varied and inspiring life story. Always fascinated by his instrument, he played with several well-known bands in the former Yugoslavia as a teenager, performing on many stages and developing his distinctive style of playing. In 1970, he decided to devote his life to music and wrote, sang, and played with passion together with his band Land.” And just four years later, they scored their first international single hit with “Shoshana.” Television appearances and radio interviews followed, and eventually he played for several years throughout Europe as the support act on tours for Focus, Deep Purple, and Ian Gillian. This period shaped his playing. He developed a new, idiosyncratic power blues that even then was able to perfectly capture and convey moods. At the end of the 1970s, he fulfilled another dream when he opened the “School for Rock Guitar” in Belgrade and devoted himself to this new task for several years until he moved to Munich in 1988 where he worked as a studio musician, developing his own musical language in response to the encounters and projects he worked on during his time. Mitchell ultimately celebrated one of his greatest successes with the Munich Symphony Orchestra, for whom he played all the acoustic and electric guitars and whose CD sold more than a million copies.
Mitchell immortalized himself with his guitar playing on the soundtrack of the blockbuster “Indiana Jones” and played as a support act with his band for world stars such as Joe Cocker, Santana, and B.B. King. Together with many musical friends from the blues and rock scene in Germany, Zed Mitchell released several albums that showcase his elegance and perfect craftsmanship, and his expertise and intuition have made him one of the most sought-after musicians in Germany to this day.
