Philharmonisches Orchester Riehen — Beethoven / Brahms

Landgasthof Riehen
Sunday, 21 September
17:00-19:00

The Philharmonisches Orchester Riehen was founded in 2004 as an association on the initiative of Bruno Haueter, organist at the Dorfkirche Riehen, and Sarah Kunigk, a professional violinist from Riehen. The purpose of the orchestra is to regularly host public concerts to promote cultural life in the region. Two concert programs are rehearsed annually and performed in spring and fall, respectively, at the Landgasthof in Riehen and in Basel. The current conductor of the Riehen Philharmonic Orchestra is Manuel Oswald, also originally a violinist. Since around 2004, Oswald has performed primarily chamber music, for example, as a member of the renowned Gémeaux Quartet. He now concentrates entirely on his work as a professional conductor.
For this autumn concert, they will play Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D major, op. 77, with soloist Susanne Mathé, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 in F major, op. 93.
