On this evening, Jazz Festival Basel will be presenting “Funky Night.” Rachel Z's real name is Rachel Carmel Nicolazzo, also known as Rachel Z. Hakim. Born in Manhattan in 1962 as the daughter of an opera singer and an artist, Rachel Z is one of the most important fusion jazz pianists in the United States. In 1988, she began playing with Al Di Meola, then became a member of Steps Ahead, where she adopted her stage name and remained until 1996. She also worked with musicians such as Larry Coryell, Angela Bofill, and Mike Mainieri. In 1995, she played a key role in Wayne Shorter's Grammy Award-winning album “High Life.” In 1999, she participated in a fusion jazz project by Stanley Clarke and Lenny White. In 2010, she founded the group The Trio of OZ with her husband Omar Hakim, with whom she recorded an album. In addition to her own jazz trio, Rachel Z also has led the rock band Peacebox. Between 2002 and 2004, she took part in Peter Gabriel's “Growing Up” tour, which is documented on the live album “Growing Up Live” and the concert film of the same name. Their performance will bring fusion jazz and funky groove at its finest to Liestal!
Tickets are CHF 54.50-79.90.
