“The Night” by Franz Schubert

Fachwerk Allschwil
Saturday, 14 March

Since 2007, with a lot of volunteer commitment and passion, Piano di Primo has been organizing jazz concerts that enable artists of national and international importance to introduce the audience to tried and tested musical specialties and novel ideas. They are organizing a few events per year in the Fachwerk building (Allschwil Local History Museum) in the middle of the idyllic village center of Allschwil, where you can spoil yourself with selected wines, a cold beer, or non-alcoholic refreshments from the bar.
Schubert's music has been a companion for Munich native Anja Lechner for a very long time. She sang his songs in earlier times. Three years ago, Schubert returned to her life. Together with the Argentinian guitarist Pablo Márquez, she developed a program of Schubert's works in this unusual instrumental combination of guitar and cello. The duo set out to find suitable arrangements. "There are songs that were already arranged for guitar in Schubert's time," says Lechner. Schubert himself is said to have been an accomplished guitarist. "We selected several songs from this repertoire. It was always important to us that the arrangement sound 'natural.'" The two musicians didn't choose Schubert's most famous songs. This way, the musical approach isn't obscured by familiar interpretations, because the music tells the story. Says Lechner, "Schubert is a magnificent storyteller in his songs. The essence is in the music. You don't need to have read the lyrics."
Tickets are CHF 38 (cash only); reserve them online in advance.
