Japanese Art Film Night

Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), one of Asia's largest international short film festivals, accredited by the Academy Awards and originating from Tokyo, presents a special mini-program titled "JAPAN ART SHORT FILMS" to coincide with Art Basel. Fuyumi Saito, producer of SSFF & ASIA, presents four to five art-themed finale short films. This approximately 40-minute program features short films selected under the theme of "Japan and Art." From nearly 5,000 submissions from around the world each year, SSFF & ASIA’s Japanese short films are known for their distinctive storytelling and techniques. This selection especially highlights artistic works that shine through with unique perspectives and refined craftsmanship.
Following the short films, the film director Kuniko Satonobu Spirig will present her documentary movie "Teruko Yokoi—Art in the Making" and share insights into the world of Japanese and Occidental art mixture. In the fall of 2024, this film was already shown at the Swiss Embassy in Tokyo, in Yokoi’s hometown of Tsushima, at the Japanese Embassy in Bern, and at the Kornfeld Gallery in Bern to commemorate 160 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Japan as well as to celebrate 100 years of Yokoi.
At this event, you can engage directly with the creators during the Q&A sessions—ask your questions and be part of the conversation.
Tickets are CHF 10 and include a welcome drink & popcorn; doors and bar open at 17:30.
