Joshua Redman New Quartet

On this evening entitled “Sax Night,” Jazz Festival Basel is presenting the Joshua Redman New Quartet. Redman, born in California in 1969, is arguably the most important saxophonist of his generation, and his new album, “Words Fall Short,” is a work of great emotional depth. Accompanied by his current quartet—Paul Cornish on piano, Philip Norris on bass, and Nazir Ebo on drums—Redman creates a soundscape that combines intimate ballads and powerful jazz compositions. His warm, singing tone and captivating stage presence make every concert an unforgettable experience. The repertoire includes original compositions and reinterpretations of classics such as “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Monk's Dream.” “Words can only take you to the threshold of what you want to say,” says Redman, which is why he makes music. Because words are fallible and can never fully describe or convey human experience, he plays the saxophone. But even sounds don't always hit the mark, says Redman: the beauty of it is that we humans are not perfect. In fact, despite all its mastery, virtuosity, and power, this album radiates a certain vulnerable humanity that makes it a great success.
Tickets are CHF 38.20-96.90.
