Sinfonieorchester Basel — Carmina Burana

Carl Orff's “Carmina Burana” tells of the return to spring, the pleasures of life, and the capriciousness of the goddess Fortuna. The work is based on a medieval collection of texts discovered in 1803 at the Benediktbeuren Abbey in Bavaria. Orff created a score brimming with rhythmically captivating energy, in which stylistic quotations from medieval music contrast with a massive, modern orchestra. The composer's most popular work will be performed by the choir and soloists of Theater Basel, along with the Sinfonieorchester Basel. The concert performance blends the archaic spring ritual with motifs from the Basel Fasnacht carnival.
Tickets are CHF 35-110 and CHF 20 for youths and students.
