The "Nachtklang" (Night Sound) concerts, a relaxed, approximately one-hour concert journey into diverse musical realms, will be presented in four Basel museums during the 2025/26 season. The musicians of the Kammerorchester Basel will engage musically with the exhibitions surrounding them. The audience will have the opportunity to visit the respective exhibitions before the concert and enjoy the music afterward.
The permanent exhibition, "Egypt: 3000 Years of High Culture on the Nile," showcases the religious rituals and beliefs of ancient Egypt. The spiritual atmosphere of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina's music harmonizes with the sacred objects and temple reliefs in the exhibition, even though it originates from a different era and reflects the religious fervor of the Renaissance. Ludwig van Beethoven's compositions express a yearning for freedom and a deep connection to nature. The overture to Goethe's tragedy "Egmont" reveals parallels to the exhibition "World of the Etruscans." The Etruscans fought against oppression and, despite external influences, were able to preserve their identity. His "Pastoral" Symphony reflects the harmony between humankind and nature, a theme explored in the exhibition "How a Masterpiece is Created." Ancient art is inextricably linked to the natural environment. Orlando Gibbons, a relatively unknown composer from the Renaissance to the Baroque period, composed with complex polyphony and intricate structure. Equally complex is the exhibition "Treasures of the Collection and Their Stories," with its diversity and richness of ancient artworks. The intricate musical lines of Gibbons's fantasies correspond to the detailed ornamentation and patterns of the exhibited artifacts.
Tickets are CHF 35 for adults and CHF 20 for youths and students.
