Kammermusik Basel — Danish String Quartet

The founding members of the Danish String Quartet met as teenagers at a music summer camp in the early 2000s and were later mentored by Tim Frederiksen at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Since 2008, the ensemble has performed in its current lineup with Norwegian cellist Fredrik Schøyen Sjölin. The quartet is internationally renowned for its musical spontaneity and harmonious interplay. It has received numerous awards, including the Carl Nielsen Prize, Denmark's highest cultural honor, in 2011, and was named Ensemble of the Year in 2020 by Musical America. It also gained international attention through its participation in the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists program.
On this evening, they will be playing Igor Strawinsky’s “Suite italienne” (arranged by the Danish String Quartet), Alfred Schnittke’s String Quartet No. 2, and Dmitry Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 4 in D major, op. 83.
Tickets are CHF 38-68 for adults, CHF 28-58 for students under 30, and CHF 5 for youths under age 20.
