Station Circus once again invites you to discover the world of contemporary circus arts in Basel through a program called Zirka Zirkus. Come and discover experiments that blur the lines between circus, performance, theater, dance, music, and visual arts as well as light and media design.
In the midst of the audience, small, colorful figures meet on a circular stage. Under the mysterious guidance of a figure in a long, dark cloak, they begin to dance, lifting off the ground and forming round dances in the air: weightless, supple, yet also wildly whirling. They are dancers made of plastic bags, the kind we all know from small grocery stores. They fight and fly, fall, and rise again. The mysterious figure gathers them, scatters them, and protects them, at least for the time being. This short piece entitled "L'après-midi d'un Foehn Version 1" by sought-after artist Phia Ménard has been touring since 2008—a half-hour of magic that inspires the sense of floating; performance without language.
Tickets are CHF 28 for adults, CHF 18 for students, CHF 10 for children up to age 16, and CHF 5 from the third child.
